Thurman Ross Mayfield, Sr, also known as “Tate” was born to the parentage of Faranasa Mayfield and Katherine Anthony Mayfield in Longview, Texas where he was lifelong resident. Thurman transitioned from this life, to Heaven on Friday, October 9,2020 at Longview Reginal Hospital in Longview, Texas.
He accepted Christ at an early age where he united with and was baptized at Grown Valley Baptist Church.
Thurman Ross Mayfield received his education from Longview public schools and graduated in the Mary C. Womack Class of 1961.
On September 1, 1963 he united in Holy Matrimony with Miss Ruth Ella Lewis. Three children were born to this union.
During his 77 years of life, Thurman was dedicated employee of Trailmobile for many years, and later joined Lone Star Steel. He retired from the City of Longview after 20 years of service.
He loved spending time with family and friends. Thurman was one of the founders of the “Northside Reunion”, where he served as a dedicated co-leader of the reunion for over 15 years. He loved to cook and was a master on the grill, he also loved football and music.
Thurman Ross Mayfield, Sr. was preceded in death by his father and mother, one sister Rosie Lee Mayfield and companion, Shirley Shaw.
Precious memories will be cherished by his loving children, daughters, Leakita Mayfield and Felecia Mayfield Webb, and son, Thurman Mayfield, Jr. all of Longview, TX; stepson, Tyron Shaw, Longview, TX; two grandchildren, Shavon Mayfield, Keller, TX; Whitney Webb, Waco Texas; a special granddaughter, Shunnika Carathers ; two great-grandchildren, Kamri Alexander and Aaliyah Pierson ; mother of his children, Ruth Mayfield, Longview, TX; special friends, Charles Redd, Leroy King, Gary Johnson, Adrian Taylor and Edward Harnage; special daughter, Maudie Lovely Empy.
