Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid – John 14:27
On June 18, 1967, Melvin Sue Thomas was born to the proud parents of Melvin Thomas and Laverne Fite Thomas, in Longview, Texas. As the first born of seven children, Sue was considered the second mom of the family. She helped instill family values, the importance of financial literacy, and was a genuine example of unconditional love and support. She loved her family dearly and was always ready to help anyone in their time of need.
Sue joined Growing Valley Baptist Church at an early age, and she gave her life to the Christ. She later joined Fresh Start Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Kelvin Thomas.
Sue graduated from Longview High School in 1985 and began her higher education at Kilgore College in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science Degree. She also became a Trauma Consultant, and on November 5, 2022 she became a Certified Christian Counselor.
At the age of 11, Sue decided to explore entrepreneurship by selling candy. This is where she began to understand the importance of financial stewardship and building wealth. Sue worked at Sarsaparilla Steakhouse at age 13. She owned her own fashion store, MS Fashions. Everyone knew she was a self-starter and no stranger to hard work. She took interest in business management. She began her management career with Carmike Cinemas, Sabine Valley Center, and American Rehabilitation.
One of Sue’s greatest and most proud accomplishments in life was that of being a mother to her daughter Jalessa Makaila Dotson. She always expressed admiration for her daughter’s success.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents: Melvin Thomas and Laverne Thomas, and her long-life partner Jeffrie Dotson.
Sue leaves to celebrate her life and precious memories of her loving daughter Jalessa Makaila Dotson, Longview, TX, foster-son Bennie Dudley, Longview, TX; four brothers: Kelvin Thomas (Sheri), Fort Worth, TX, Arculious Thomas (Claudette), Longview, TX, Ja’Mario Thomas (Heather), Yukon, OK, and De’Mario Thomas, Longview, TX; two sisters: Zipora Thomas, Longview, TX and Joynella Thomas, Longview, TX; Great aunt, uncles, aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
