Life Story The Angel of death entered on August 2, 2021. God saw him getting tired and a cure was not to be. So, he put his loving arms around him and whispered"come to me. Mr. James Edward Bates was born Sept 8, 1943, in Longview, to Jossie McIntyre and Willie Lee Bates. James grew up and was educated in Longview Public Schools. He graduated from Wiley College. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity. He was a member of Lewis Chapel CME Church. James served our country in the United States Army for several years. James worked for more than twenty-five years at Schlitz Brewer. Later he was employed by Longview ISD, at Judson Middle School where he retired. James was a quiet, thoughtful, and loving person. He greeted you with a smile and a warm hug. Often he would say: hello you Bradleys'what are y'all doing here in Longview? We would fondly reply, "hey Bates what's up. Those left to cherish his memories are his cousins; Billy Bradley (Betty), Mary A.Bradley, Shirley Hale (Leo), Willietta Bradley, and Wendell Bradley. Other relatives; Edward Sirls, and Othella Writt from Longview and a host of church families and friends. MASK WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE WORN AT FUNERAL HOME AND GRAVESIDE SERVICE WITH NO EXCEPTION.
